Late Quaternary solifluction sheets in the British uplands

چکیده
Solifluction sheets are large-scale and extensive valley-floor valley-side landforms developed widely in the British Isles from mass-wasting of glacial periglacial sediments during late-glacial times. We describe their geographical distribution review processes that have led to development. use data Cheviot Hills, one site where sedimentology optically stimulated luminescence dating been combined, assess age nature deposition. also present central Wales a new mapping resistivity survey has reconstructed solifluction sheets. explore relative lack recent research on these argue represent clear example how upland geomorphological systems responded climate change. end by identifying number areas enigmatic features could be focussed, including better understanding distribution, age.

متن کاملLate Quaternary glaciation in the Kyrgyz
The Tien Shan of Kyrgyzstan contains multiple moraines and drift from late Quaternary glaciations. The spatial/temporal distribution of the glaciers inferred from the moraines suggests that the main factor controlling glacier advance here was the availability of moisture. The dominant modern climatic signatures in northern Central Asia include orographic thunderstorms in summer, cold and dry Si...
متن کاملEquilibrium-Line Altitudes of Late Quaternary Glaciers in the Zardkuh Mountain, Iran
Equilibrium-line altitudes (ELAs) of former glaciers in the Zardkuh Mountain of the Zagros Mountain Range were reconstructed from glacial-geologic data on former ice limits by using various methods. In the study area various types of glacial landforms such as outwash fans, moraines and well developed glacial cirques are observed. The results suggest that ELA were depressed 1433 m below to prese...
